Solar Panels
Under the Solar Credits Scheme, those who purchase small-generation solar PV units receive additional small-scale technology certificates or STCs (formally known as Renewable Energy Certificates or RECs) for the first 1.5 kW of system capacity. Modern Solar can buy these certificates from you at the time of purchase, reducing your upfront investment considerably.
From July 1, 2011, the Solar Credits scheme offers a three times multiplier for the amount of STCs to which you are entitled; there is no means test and no lengthy application approval process. Depending on where you live, a 1.5kW PV system can attract up to 100+ STCs.
Solar Hot Water Systems
In addition to STCs, the federal government is currently offering a solar rebate of $1000 for the upgrade of electric hot water systems to solar hot water systems under the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme.
The solar hot water rebate is available to eligible home-owners, landlords or tenants of existing homes (new homes and construction are excluded), and is not means tested.
